Enhancing the Quality of Our Oysters
At France Naissain, we take pride in producing superior quality oysters for over 30 years. To us, offering a quality oyster means working daily to enhance our animals' resilience and improve their characteristics such as flesh content, shape, color, and firmness. That's why we chose to establish our dedicated Research and Development (R&D) department, aimed at enhancing our oysters' quality.
How does our R&D service operate?
Our R&D team employs advanced scientific techniques to analyze various aspects of our oyster cultivation. We assess oyster resilience by observing them under different breeding conditions: on tidal flats and in closed environments. This helps us evaluate the impact of our selection and production techniques (zootechnics) on oyster survival and quality.
Waterborne pathogens
Oysters are filter-feeding animals and are highly sensitive to the quality of their environment. Numerous waterborne pathogens such as Herpes virus, Vibrio aestuarianus, weaken oysters. Our R&D service strives to enhance our oysters' survival rates when exposed to these pathogens. Additionally, we analyze other factors like temperature fluctuations, salinity, and oxygen conditions as they directly impact the animals' metabolism and stress levels.
Ensuring species variability
Monitoring the genetic variability of the Crassostrea Gigas (Magallana Gigas) species is crucial for healthy generational renewal. The SYSAAF (Union of French Avian and Aquatic Breeders) supports our teams in monitoring this variability and devising our crossbreeding plans.
Quality and safety of our oysters
Lastly, we are committed to delivering superior-quality oysters while ensuring their safety. We've established stringent quality and safety standards for all our products, regularly checked by our QSE (Quality Safety Environment) department and independent bodies for the annual renewal of our labels: ASC oyster farm, BIO oysters.
